OBX wreck
The Oriental is not divable. when we were there a week or so ago its an undivable wreck. The rip tides are sos trong thatif uou are able to do it you have about ten minutes at best bewfore youll get tossed around, A majority of teh sip is buried as well.
The TRingle wrecks are bouyed but with so many extra bouys and poor visibiltiy people ar having tourble finding them. My daughter anted to dive her first wreck and we tried a surf entry but bth hubby and daughter got tossed. Jimmy lost weight belt and margo got slammed. OBX Kill devil hills/nags head is rough but supposidly if you can get out past the breakers, preferably by boa the wrecks are great. |

I dove the Triangle Wrecks at Nags head a little over a week ago. Got tossed in the while trying to fix a problem with my fin strap. Swam out 150 yards, caught my breath and descended on the Kyzickes. The viz was about 15-20 feet (very good for that wreck). The surge made for interesting swimming. Had to thumb it after about 15 minutes due to an equipment problem. While only about 15-20 feet, it's definitely an 'advanced' dive due to the entry, surface swim, and surge.

I've dived on the Zane Grey and the Advance in NC. The Advance was fun, but the Zane Grey is most valid as a 'orientation' dive as there isn't much to see or do. Still, it was my first dive in salt water and it was a valuable experience. Me and my buddy got disoriented, lost the guide line, and had a nasty surface swim that ended the day for me. I almost bailed on the rest of the trip's dives, but I forced myself to do another day (if only to not waste the money already spent on it) and I was really glad I did.
We saw some neat barracuda off the Advance. They were giving us the a few looks as we were dong a safety stop at 15 feet. |
