Quest for Sunken Warships is exploring the Murphy. Comes on at 10pm Eastern on the Military Channel.

There sure seem to be alot of good wreck dive shows on the Military channel. I don't think Time-Warner offers that here.

Time Warner offers it here, but it's digital cable only.

The wreck story was interesting. Basically the ship broke in half after a collision. The bow sank but the stern did not. The ship was given a new bow and went on to serve the rest of the war. So the navy has no record of it sinking. People had assumed the wreck was a liberty ship for a long time but it was half the USS Murphy. It's 75 miles off the Jersey coast in 260 fsw according to the show.

Deep Sea Dectectives did an episode on the USS Murphy. I think it was called "Destroyer Down".

According to that Episode, Chatterton and Kohler are the ones who identified the bow of the wreck.

it's about 260' to 300' deep and 80 miles offshore. You pretty much have to set up your own charter expedition for something like that and set up a team of divers.
