i did not know that this existed until i read your post, and then googled it...
that thing has a bunch of bad reviews everywhere i read about them... How do you like it?

by dying you mean the battery? (from some german website i ran into that i could not understand it seems to not be replaceble... )

Didn't use it much but it seemed to work fine the few times I did.

It's acting funky, pointing in all kinds of directions except the right one. Says it still has 54% battery, but that could be wrong since it's about 7 years old. As I understand it, the battery is not *user* replaceable and I've contacted Uwatec/Scubapro/Johnson to see if they can still fix/replace it.

I'm still going to keep this post (and the one on another board) open but I found a new one in Rochester that I bought. Since I seem to be the only person who likes them I'll maybe buy a few of them to keep around.

Maybe Uwatec should look at re-introducing them since the technology in the Galileo Sol is supposed to be really nice.

Hi Defman,
I live in France and have a True Track as well. The thing is the battery is totally empty.I wondered whether you had to change yours and how you did it: Uwatec in France does not want to change batteries on the true track.

I am looking forward your reply,
thanks

Uwatec USA wouldn't replace mine either. I took mine apart (since it was already dead I wasn't going to hurt anything) and the battery isn't very replaceable as it's spot-welded (not soldered) to it's terminals.

How about just adding a watch with user changeable batteries and a digital compass... all for 100 bucks?

I follow the KISS principal. I like my plain old magnetic compass. It needs no batteries and as long as the stars are in the heavens and the Earth revolves around the sun, I should be good to go.

Certainly a good option.. I put my TrueTrack in the compass mount on my Wisdom. That way I can bounce it off the side of the boat and drag it across reefs.

If you like the Uwatec digital compass technology and are looking to upgrade computers there is always the Galileo Sol. It has an onboard compass that is surely rooted in your true track, and the batteries are replaceable.

I agree. I have the galileo sol, and it's digital compass is slick, but I trust my analog compass more. Digital is a nice backup, but I would never want it as my only option.
