Beginner DRY suit

I'm 6'4" 220 size 13 boot, would love to enter some lakes while still up north in Ohio. My only option besides buying used is to forget paying my student loans for a couple years

Forget about the student loans for now and get a dry suit. You only live once.

I've seriously thought about it, but then I remembered the look on my girlfriends face when I jokingly mentioned it. Diving is my second favorite thing, my first favorite thing is (the sweet answer; her) (the honest answer; how she relaxes me) and I don't want to waste that one. lol

Fair enough. I have to weigh similar things like I have a wife and a couple of kids to think about.

one way to afford it is to get it in pieces. first get the dry, then after you save up, get the suit. of course, my personal style is just to get the whole thing at once but some people are a lot more disciplined than I am.

Used size XXL drysuits pop up regularly for sale. I sold one myself just recently. It may not (or hey, you could get lucky!) be a perfect fit, but it'll get you diving. Then you can save slowly for the perfect suit, while getting your drysuit diving techniques down pat and learning which features are the most important for you. Meanwhile, for under $600 (sometimes as low as $400), you can get into a drysuit and start diving regardless of temperature.

I recommend this course of action pretty much every time the topic comes up.

Just make sure to take your time and wait for a suit with the seals and valves are in good shape (and no leaks) before you buy, or else your savings will get used up with repair costs.
